Proposition 42 on the statewide March ballot passed by a substantial margin. This measure placed wording in the Constitution to devote all sales tax from gasoline sales to transportation beginning in fiscal year 2008. Measure K, to impose a parcel tax in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties to support maintenance and operations of the East Bay Regional Park District, did not receive a 2/3 vote. Both measures were described in the February/March 2002 Bay Area Monitor.
