FOCUS Forum: Health in Urban Areas

Personal eating choices and genes undoubtedly affect our weight, but the urban, suburban, commercial and organizational environments we live in can also play a vital role in our health. Dr. Jackson will explore the problems associated with our existing state of ill health and highlight the changes needed to give ourselves and our children a healthier future. A pediatrician and public health leader, Dr. Jackson has served in many positions with the California Health Department, including state health officer.

Proposals Due for EPA's SF Bay Fund September 23
 
The Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 has recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund (SF Bay Fund) to fund implementation projects that achieve significant and measurable improvement in water quality and attainment of beneficial uses. EPA Region 9 is also seeking to encourage partnerships among agencies and organizations that have purview over water quality and land use decisions to protect and restore watershed functions and values.

Proposals are due to the EPA on September 23, 2009.
